Bicycle NSW Annual General Meeting

JENNY BURN, PRESIDENT BNSW*

11 November 2008

Firstly the Board would like to say a big thank you to all our members who attended the AGM on November 1, and to those who submitted a proxy vote. The strength of community organisations like ours is based on member participation so it is always encouraging to see people getting involved.

Three nominations were received for the three vacancies on the Board and so the three candidates were taken as being elected at the meeting. Profiles of your three new Board members David McGrath, John Cooper and Ken Price appear on the Board page of the website, so please go and take a look!

In addition at the AGM members were asked to consider and vote on 6 special resolutions relating to changes to our constitution. Each of the 6 resolutions was carried with a greater than 75% majority in favour. (Full details of the results of the vote and minutes from the meeting will be available soon on the AGM page of the website The first of the Special Resolutions paved the way for direct (electronic) voting in the future and we are looking forward to making it easier for members to participate and vote going forward.

Office-bearers and Board Committees

At the first Board meeting of the new Board on 5th November the Board appointed Office-bearers as follows:

Jenny Burn – President; Richard Birdsey – Vice President; Alex Unwin – Secretary

In addition the following Board appointments were made:

Bicycle NSW Environmental Trust Management Committee: Geoff Martin, Hilary Wise, Alex Unwin

Bicycle NSW Audit and Risk Committee: Jenny Burn, Greg Krix, Ken Price, John Cooper

Chair of the BUGs Council: Graeme Edwards

The Board is grateful for the additional time and effort committed by Board members and others who have committed their valuable time to serve in the above roles.

NSW Bike Plan

We are delighted with the rapid progress that has been made in plans to involve local BUGs in the development of the NSW BikePlan. Workshops have been set up for locations throughout Metropolitan and Regional NSW. Details at http://www.bicyclensw.org.au/content/advocacy

These workshops have come about with the organizational support of our Advocacy Volunteer Werner Steyer and the funding support from the Bicycle NSW Environmental Trust. The Board is confident that the engagement of BUGs in the crucial early stages of planning will be a great assistance to the creation of a plan that will make a significant contribution to our purpose of more people cycling more often.

Bicycle NSW Annual General Meeting – 11th November 2009

A date for the 2009 AGM has been set. Next year the AGM will be held on a Wednesday evening at 6pm and we are hopeful of securing the premises at the Mechanics School of Arts which proved to be very effective this year. Latest news and updates will be posted on the AGM page of the website as they come to hand.

...and as always we welcome the opportunity for input and discussion with our members. We will endeavour to address any concerns and comments you may have. We welcome your feedback and questions to president@bicyclensw.org.au

Please remember, the board exists to ensure that Bicycle NSW is well managed – we are not directly involved in day-to-day operations. You can find more information about the role we play published on the Board page of the Bicycle NSW website
