2009 AGM – now with Online Voting!
JENNY BURN, PRESIDENT BNSW*
19 August 2009
This edition of News from the Board is not as exciting as a trip report but it does outline some important information for members leading up to the Bicycle NSW Annual General Meeting scheduled for 6pm, Wednesday 11th November at the Sydney Mechanics School of Arts (SMSA) 280 Pitt Street, Sydney, NSW 2000
Please have a read of the following summaries - more information is available on the Bicycle NSW website via the links provided.
2009 AGM – now with Online Voting!
This year’s AGM and Board election is the first that will be held according to the constitution adopted by the members at our 2008 AGM. Important information (in particular relating to our new online voting system) is detailed on the AGM pages of the Bicycle NSW website at
http://www.bicyclensw.org.au/content/annual-general-meeting
2009 Board Elections
A key part of the AGM will be the election of new board members. We have been working hard to give members who might want to work on the board every opportunity to find out what is involved, how the board operates and the election process. To help this the following documents are available:
• Nomination forms should you want to run for a seat, available now on the website from
http://www.bicyclensw.org.au/content/nominations
. NB: Nominations close on the 15th September 2009
• Procedures and templates outlining how the Board operates are detailed on the Board pages of the website at
http://www.bicyclensw.org.au/content/board-information
Any member who is considering service on the Board or has any specific questions may contact the Board via email on
board@bicyclensw.org.au
Special Resolutions for the AGM
Three Special Resolutions affecting the BNSW Constitution are to be tabled at the AGM for discussion and voting by members. Broadly the special resolutions are:
1. How surplus property would be treated if the Association were wound up
2. Setting the minimum age to sit on the Board at 18 years old or more
3. Requiring members voting at general meetings to be 18 years old or more.
Details of these Special Resolutions are downloadable from the AGM page at
http://www.bicyclensw.org.au/content/annual-general-meeting
Proxy Voting
The Proxy Voting form for the 2009 AGM will be available after nominations for the Board have closed at 5pm Tuesday, 15th September 2009. The proxy form will allow you as a member to direct your vote as you see fit.
The board always welcomes input and discussion with our members and we try to address any concerns and comments you may have. Please send any feedback to
president@bicyclensw.org.au
Please note: the board’s role is to ensure that Bicycle NSW is well managed – we are not directly involved in day-to-day operations. Any questions or feedback on Bicycle NSW operations should be sent to the Chief Executive Officer via email to
aunwin@bicyclensw.org.au
or by phone (02) 9704 0810
