Great weekend of cycling at the Dungog Pedalfeat where 600 riders participated in a fun weekend of riding and social events and eating. Twelve members of the group booked in for the weekend of rides which started on Friday afternoon. Some people camped and others took their caravans. Those in tents found out about Dungog’s cool weather at night and riding was in near 30 degree heat during the day. Anyone who expected no hills received a wake up call as that is what Dungog is -- hills. The ride on Saturday morning was 22km on a bitumen road that was very rough for those on road bikes and was ridden at a fairly slow pace. There was 2km of dirt which was a challenge for some. All this was forgotten when we were served with muffins on reaching our destination. On Saturday morning we rode17km to the old Thalaba Church -- again some hills, but all was forgotten when we received scones with jam and cream. Don’t know what it is about food and cyclists, but having it soon makes them forget all the pain and any other negatives about the ride. Bettanne Austin once again left everyone behind and set a blistering pace. Of course Alan Brighton being a good bloke offered to take a photo for someone and knelt down to get a good shot and placed his knee in his jam and cream. It was all fattening stuff anyway Alan. Lynn Cooper and Bev Brighton organized breakfast on Saturday and Sunday morning saving everyone having to get their own. What a tremendous start for a days riding that turned out to be. Thank you Lynn and Bev it was terrific. It was a great camping site, very social and lots of fun, which is what cycling is about, isn't it?Wally Simpson couldn’t get over how many hills there were on the 42km Sunday ride and would have preferred to have followed the pipeline to Chichester Dam, a flatter route. The ride down to the dam was great but not so great when the steep hill up from the dam had to be faced. It was great weekend of riding, well organized with a very friendly group of people and it could well be on our yearly calendar. Our next ride is a 100km ride starting at the BP at Urunga at 8am and is to Mullaway for coffee and return to Urunga. Everyone's welcome -- more information phone 6655 5355
