The Hill End 3 Day tour will be held on the 7th, 8th & 9th November 2009 (as per the calendar). This is an off road ride with 4WD support for luggage and lunch. The ride will start from the Orange Visitors Information Centre at 8.00am (TBC), Sat 7th Nov and travel to Hill End via Long Point which includes extremely hilly terrain & a river crossing (the Macquarie) at Long Point. The road surface is good 4WD dirt for about 40km+ of the 70km route (rest is tar). The second day goes from Hill End via the Bridle Track to Bathurst. Again, good 4WD dirt road, again extremely hilly, 70km with 40km+ of dirt. The third day goes from Bathurst to Orange, mainly tar road but again extremely hilly, 55km. If anyone is interested please call Mick Cooper (0437 136 169, mjcooper56@hotmail.com) ASAP to secure accommodation & get more details. Be WARNED this is a very picturesque ride but very difficult, not technically, but physically. You will need a mountain bike with good brakes & little gears, at least 1 to 1 or bigger. Good sturdy cross tyres would be ideal, 1.9 plus, knobbies would be too slow on the sealed sections. The support vehicle is provided to carry luggage & lunch, there is no room for passengers so you must be confident you are fit enough to complete this ride. It is a fantastic ride but a real challenge.
