New BUG for Tweed Shire

 WOLLUMBINBUG*

26 October 2009

Newly established Wollumbin Bicycle User Group has already slated a success with the establishment of Tweed Shire Council Cycling Advisory Group. The aim of the council advisory gropu is to allow better communication channels between council and cyclists to get practical feedback on how cyclist safety can be improved throughout the shire.

Wollumbin BUG secretary Joanne Spiller is keen to let her fellow residents know that cycling, whether for transportation or recreation, is a great way to get some exercise. The Shire residents who make up Wollumbin BUG want to create a safer riding environment for all bike riders in the Tweed.

Council’s Sustainability Officer Dan Walton said that the establishment of a Bicycle Users Group is great news for the cycling community.

“Wollumbin BUG is a great opportunity for Council to obtain feedback where the rubber meets the road. That is, practical advice from regular bike riders on how Council can improve the Shire’s cycling facilities for all users,” Mr Walton said.

Wollumbin BUG celebrated its launch with a family fun day. Three social rides that catered to riders of all skill levels were held with a sausage sizzle and refreshments after.
