News from the Board – December 2009

JENNY BURNS, PRESIDENT BNSW*

15 December 2009

Board Strategy Session

The new Board team met in December to start a review of the existing Bicycle NSW strategy in the light of the many changes occurring in our external environment. Holding a preliminary session in December was designed to allow the team to spend some time thinking about cycling in a larger sense over the holiday season, when (hopefully) all of us will find some time to be out on the bike with a little more head-space than usual.

Our discussions ranged from the increasingly prominent issue of safety and the relationship between motorists, pedestrians and cyclists – to the challenges of working within our kaleidoscopic political environment!

It’s our view that now, more than ever, it is critical that we focus our limited resources to have the maximum impact across the very broad cycling agenda. There is no doubt that cycling has a place in the future of healthy and sustainable communities – it’s now a question of how quickly and safely we can realise this potential.

This was the first in what will be a series of strategy sessions, during which time we’ll be opening up the process to our members and inviting your input. So if you’re out and about on two wheels over the break and have a flash of insight, we’d love to hear your thoughts.

Christmas and New Year wishes

It’s been another eventful and action packed year for Bicycle NSW, with the move to Olympic Park and the record participation in the City of Sydney Spring Cycle being just two highlights of the year.

None of what we achieve would be possible without the extraordinary hard work and commitment from the team and our faithful volunteers. Thank you again from the board for a fantastic effort from all of you.

Now the holiday season is upon us – and we hope that you and your families find getting out on your bike a great way to offset the excesses of celebration!

Our best wishes for a safe and enjoyable time with your friends and families.

The board always welcomes input and discussion with our members and we try to address any concerns and comments you may have. Please send any feedback to president@bicyclensw.org.au

Please note: the board’s role is to ensure that Bicycle NSW is well managed – we are not directly involved in day-to-day operations. Any questions or feedback on Bicycle NSW operations should be sent to the Chief Executive Officer via email to aunwin@bicyclensw.org.au or by phone (02) 9704 0810
