Bicycle education workshops – “a sense of safety, balance and skills to ride”Throughout term 4 over 500 students have participated in bicycle education workshops across the state. The workshops, delivered by qualified instructors within school grounds provide students with the knowledge and skills to be safe and responsible riders. Participants are tested in their ability to signal, scan in front and behind, conduct an emergency stop, manoeuvre around obstacles and become aware of how to act at junctions, stop signs and crossings. “Students had fun but were learning as well – especially about road use!” says Susan Smith from Hamilton South Public School. The workshops are free for schools registered with Bicycle NSW and target students in years 4 and above. “We would love to be able to do this again” says Angela Stretton from King Street School, “The children want to know when we are doing another day so it looks like I have some planning ahead!”To register you interest for a workshop in Term 1 2010, visit http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/5KV3S3Q
