Mudgee – Gulgong

The first Mudgee – Gulgong – Mudgee 65k recreational bike ride is set to take place as an official NSW Bike Week event on Sunday the 28th September 2008. Being staged by local Mudgee community organisation, the Australian Rural Education Centre (AREC), the event will also act as a fundraiser for the Mudgee Education Foundation which provides financial assistance to school leavers....more

Age no barrier for epic cycle ride

Proving that age is no barrier to fitness, a group of cyclists with an average age of 55 (some are well into their 70s) set off from Broken Hill early in July for an epic, largely off-road trek, that will take them over 2,000 kms to Alice Springs. Some of them will then go on as far as Darwin – a journey of 3,718 kms. The 78 cyclists are re-enacting a ride made by Frederick Blakeley and the O'Neil brothers in 1908.
