One thumb up and one thumb down

I agree that the new green lanes are a good step forward for cycling-they should be on every cycle route. They are a vast improvement over the more usual practise of removing the cycle lane markings across intersections. The story however fails to note that the lanes between intersections on Lilyfield road are generally unusable and dangerous. They are entirely in the 'door zone' and the car parking lane is so narrow that a normal car, even parked hard against the gutter, takes up part of the cycle lane, and of course, most people don't park so carefully. As a consequence it is usually impossible to stay within the lane even if you were willing to risk the doors. Unusable but highly visible lanes like these, I believe, send a wrong message to motorists. They say "there's your cycle lane and this is my car lane" [so keep out of my lane!].
