Thumbs Up to Dubbo City Council who have used some of their Stimulus Package Funding grants from the Federal Government to extend a great cycleway along the Macquarie River at Dubbo.
Dubbo BUG has been pushing the council for several years to extend the cycleway. The cycleway originally went along both sides of the river, finishing out at Taronga Western Plains Zoo.
However with some of the first round of funding, Dubbo Council extended the cycleway out to the tourist attraction of Dundullimaal Slab Homestead, and then back down to the river.
With the latest round of funding they will be extending the cycleway again, putting in a long cycle bridge across the river flats to join up with the main street of Dubbo. This will give cyclists, walker, tourists and locals a wonderful circuit to use in safety.
The extension will be parallel to a disused railway line, so users will have a good view of a railway bridge over the river, together with rural scenes of cattle grazing, canoists on the river, people fishing, what more could you want.
The completion of this cycleway will add to Dubbo's already comprehensive range of cycleways, both on and off road. With reasonably flat terrain, mostly quiet, sealed country roads, Dubbo is a great place for bike riding, so get out to Dubbo next year and try out the new cycleway. |
